Dear Berry Bear Families,
Welcome to the 2023/2024 school year. I am very excited to kick off this school year! As we move into my second year as the principal of Berry and move further away from the changes and restrictions that came from the Covid pandemic, I am excited about the work we will do together for the Berry Community. I learned a lot this past year, but there is one thing that stood out above everything else. I learned that this community has PASSION. That passion along with the passion that the Berry Team brings each day is the tool that is going to continue to inspire our students and drive our school’s upward trajectory. We are on our way, but there is still a lot to do to rebuild our school community due to Covid and its impact.
One of the top shows in recent years is a show called “Ted Lasso.” In that show there is a scene where the main character states he heard a quote once (I searched to find out the true beginnings of the quote but can’t really find where it originally comes from) it said, “Be curious, not judgmental.” The idea is that we all need to ask more questions. When we don’t understand something, ask a question. When we disagree with something, ask a question. When we have an idea, ask a question. When we want to ask a question…ask a question. Being curious leads us to new discoveries, being curious teaches us things, being curious allows us to grow and learn. THIS will be the focus of the school year this year, being curious.
This year our Site Plan for Student Achievement includes three goals. The first goal is Academic Growth. We will focus on helping all Berry students grow in their academic learning. Our school wide academic focus this school year will be Math: Problem Solving. The Berry team has many reading and writing interventions in place from the great work they had done in previous years, and those will continue, but we also wanted to shift and begin to build interventions for math. The second goal is to continue to build Equity. The Berry team will participate in several sessions of “street data” this year. Through these exercises we talk to students directly about how to improve and create equitable school programs. There will be an increase in student committees, and we will create more opportunities to listen to students and parents. The third SPSA goal is to continue to develop a welcoming and safe school environment for all. We will continue to improve the facilities and develop school-wide expectations for across the campus and create more opportunities for family involvement. All of this will help develop a strong culture of behavior and achievement and create a successful environment for everyone.
Families, again, I am very excited to get this school year going. I am excited about where this community is going and what we can do together for the children. Let’s ask questions. Let’s work together, Let’s be curious!

Estimadas familias de Berry Bear,
Bienvenidos al año escolar 2023/2024. ¡Estoy muy emocionada de comenzar este año escolar! A medida que avanzamos en mi segundo año como directora de Berry y nos alejamos de los cambios y restricciones que vinieron de la pandemia de Covid, estoy emocionada por el trabajo que haremos juntos para la Comunidad de Berry. Aprendí mucho este año pasado, pero hay una cosa que sobresalió por encima de todo lo demás. Aprendí que esta comunidad tiene PASIÓN. Esa pasión junto con la pasión que el equipo de Berry trae cada día es la herramienta que va a continuar inspirando a nuestros estudiantes e impulsando la trayectoria ascendente de nuestra escuela. Estamos en camino, pero aún queda mucho por hacer para reconstruir nuestra comunidad escolar debido a Covid y su impacto.
Uno de los mejores espectáculos de los últimos años es uno llamado "Ted Lasso". En ese programa hay una escena en la que el protagonista dice que una vez oyó una cita (he buscado para averiguar el verdadero origen de la cita, pero no encuentro de dónde viene) que decía: "Sé curioso, no juzgues". La idea es que todos necesitamos hacer más preguntas. Cuando no entendamos algo, hagamos una pregunta. Cuando no estemos de acuerdo con algo, hagamos una pregunta. Cuando tengamos una idea, hagamos una pregunta. Cuando queramos hacer una pregunta... hagámosla. Ser curiosos nos lleva a nuevos descubrimientos, ser curiosos nos enseña cosas, ser curiosos nos permite crecer y aprender. Este será el objetivo del curso escolar de este año: ser curiosos.
Este año nuestro Plan de Rendimiento Estudiantil incluye tres objetivos. El primer objetivo es el Crecimiento Académico. Nos enfocaremos en ayudar a todos los estudiantes de Berry a crecer en su aprendizaje académico. Nuestro enfoque académico este año escolar será Matemáticas: Resolución de Problemas. El equipo de Berry tiene muchas intervenciones de lectura y escritura en el lugar de la gran labor que habían hecho en años anteriores, y que continuará, pero también quería cambiar y empezar a construir las intervenciones para las matemáticas. El segundo objetivo es seguir desarrollando la equidad. El equipo de Berry participará en varias sesiones de "datos de la calle" este año. A través de estos ejercicios hablamos directamente con los estudiantes sobre cómo mejorar y crear programas escolares equitativos. Habrá un aumento en los comités estudiantiles, y crearemos más oportunidades para escuchar a los estudiantes y padres. El tercer objetivo del PEAS es seguir desarrollando un entorno escolar acogedor y seguro para todos. Seguiremos mejorando las instalaciones y desarrollando expectativas para toda la escuela y crearemos más oportunidades para la participación de las familias. Todo esto ayudará a desarrollar una fuerte cultura de comportamiento y logro y crear un ambiente exitoso para todos.
Familias, una vez más, estoy muy emocionado de comenzar este año escolar. Estoy entusiasmado con el futuro de esta comunidad y con lo que podemos hacer juntos por los niños. Hagamos preguntas. Trabajemos juntos, ¡Seamos curiosos!
