Free COVID testing for students and staff

Dear South Bay Community,

In order to increase the safety of our students, families, and staff as we prepare for the return to school on January 11, South Bay is offering on-site antigen COVID testing. This option is available for asymptomatic students and staff only. If you are experiencing symptoms, please remain at home. South Bay staff must present a District ID upon arrival. To minimize processing and wait times, we ask that our families/staff visit the testing sites as specified below:

Sunnyslope School (2500 Elm Avenue in San Diego) – For students/staff from Nestor Language Academy, Nicoloff, Pence, and Sunnyslope

Thursday, January 6, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Friday, January 7, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Monday, January 10, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Reach Out to Families Center (1237 Elder Avenue in Imperial Beach) – For students/staff from Berry, Central, Emory Academy, and Mendoza

Thursday, January 6, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Friday, January 7, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Monday, January 10, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM

South Bay Education Center (601 Elm Avenue in Imperial Beach) – For students/staff from Bayside STEAM Academy, Imperial Beach Charter, Oneonta, VIP Village Preschool, and the Virtual Academy

Thursday, January 6, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Friday, January 7, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Monday, January 10, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Department staff (Transportation, Facilities, Child Nutrition, etc.) should go to the site nearest their work location. While there is no statewide testing mandate for students/staff returning to school, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to help keep in-person school safer for everyone. Ideally, testing should be done on Thursday or Friday, and again on Monday.

Should you test positive, please remain at home and contact your doctor and school as soon as possible.

As a reminder, if you are experiencing symptoms (fever/chills, cough, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle/body aches, etc.) or have been in contact with someone with COVID-19, please remain at home.

Our students, families, and staff have been working tirelessly to keep schools both safe and open for in-person learning. Thank you for participating in this testing option to keep each other safe and to keep our classrooms open.

We look forward to welcoming our students and staff back to our campuses on Tuesday!

Sincerely,

José Espinoza
