Dear Berry Elementary Families,
I hope this letter finds you and your family well. The anticipation of every school year brings great excitement. After a year and a half of distance learning, the excitement and anticipation to return to school is at an all-time high. I cannot wait to see our incredible students back on the Berry campus. The first day of school is Monday, July 26th. We will return to our regular school hours which are:
- 8:00 a.m. - 2:25 p.m. for 1st - 6th grade
- 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for kindergarten
- Wednesdays are minimum day for staff meetings and dismissal is 1 hour earlier
The staff and I have worked to ensure that students and staff remain healthy and safe by implementing the current CDPH’s School Re-opening Framework and Guidance. I will review these guidelines on the following days via Zoom video conferencing:
- Thursday, 7/22 @ 9:00 a.m. (English)
- Thursday, 7/22 @ 10:00 a.m. (Spanish)
- Thursday, 7/22 @ 5:00 p.m. (English)
The link for the Zoom meeting is https://tinyurl.com/berryzoomroom. In addition, a document with an overview of the health and safety measures will be sent to all families.
Families will be informed of their student’s teacher via email. The email message will be sent during the week of July 19th. We are also planning for a back to school event on the afternoon of Friday, July 23rd. This event will be an opportunity for students and families to meet their teachers. We are in the process of determining if the back to school event will be in-person at the school site or held via Zoom video conferencing. A flier with more information will be sent out in the near future.
We understand that students have been away from the traditional school setting for almost a year and a half. For this reason, the staff and I have worked on a detailed plan to help transition students back to the regular school setting. This plan will focus on meeting students where they are and creating opportunities for students to reconnect with classmates and their teacher. We want to ensure that every student feels safe, comfortable and excited about returning to school.
In addition, we know that students may need academic and emotional support to readjust. We have dedicated resources to support students regardless of their needs including additional academic intervention, enrichment opportunities, and social/emotional support. Teachers will be identifying students’ needs during the first stretch of the school year and supportive plans will be in place to help each student. As always, our goal is to create the conditions for each student to reach their limitless potential. This the BERRY WAY!
An important change this year is that we will not start the year with the Breakfast in the Classroom program. Students who want to eat breakfast at school will do so by coming to the cafeteria between 7:30 a.m. to 7:50 a.m. to obtain breakfast. As in the past all students will receive breakfast and lunch at no-cost to the family. The front gates open at 7:30 and the 7:58 bell designates time for students to be on campus in their classroom line.

Estimadas familias de la Escuela Berry,
Espero que la presente los encuentre bien de salud a usted y a su familia. La anticipación de cada año escolar trae una gran emoción. Después de un año y medio de aprendizaje a distancia, la emoción y la anticipación están en su punto más alto. No puedo esperar ver a nuestros increíbles estudiantes cuando regresemos al aprendizaje en persona a tiempo completo. El primer día de clases es el lunes, 26 de julio. Regresaremos a nuestro horario escolar regular que será:
- 8:00 a.m. - 2:25 p.m. para 1ro-6to grado
- 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. para kindergarten
- Los miércoles son días mínimos para juntas del personal y la salida es 1 hora más temprano
El personal y yo hemos trabajado para asegurar que los estudiantes y el personal permanezcan saludables y seguros mediante la implementación de la Estructura y Orientación de la Reapertura Escolar CDPH. Revisaré estas pautas en los siguientes días a través de videoconferencias Zoom:

Se informará a las familias sobre el maestro de su estudiante por correo electrónico. El mensaje de correo electrónico se enviará durante la semana del 19 de julio. También estamos planeando un evento de regreso a clases la tarde del viernes, 23 de julio. Este evento será una oportunidad para que los estudiantes y familias conozcan a sus maestros. Estamos en el proceso de determinar si el evento de regreso a clase será en persona en el plantel escolar o mediante una videoconferencia Zoom. Enviaremos un volante con más información.
Entendemos que los estudiantes han estado alejados del entorno escolar tradicional por casi un año y medio. Por esta razón, el personal y yo hemos trabajado en un plan detallado para ayudar a los estudiantes con la transición de regreso al entorno escolar regular. Este plan se enfocará en reunir a los estudiantes donde están y crear oportunidades para que los estudiantes reconecten con sus compañeros y maestros. Queremos asegurarnos de que cada estudiante se sienta seguro, cómodo y emocionado por regresar a clases.
Además, sabemos que los estudiantes pueden necesitar apoyo académico y emocional para reajustarse. Tenemos recursos dedicados para apoyar a los estudiantes independientemente de sus necesidades, incluyendo una intervención académica adicional, oportunidades de enriquecimiento y apoyo socioemocional. Los maestros identificarán las necesidades de los estudiantes durante el primer tramo del año escolar y se implementarán planes de apoyo para ayudar a cada estudiante. Como siempre, nuestro objetivo es crear las condiciones para que cada estudiante alcance su potencial ilimitado. ¡Esta es la MANERA DE BERRY!
Un cambio importante este año es que no comenzaremos el año con el programa Desayuno en el Salón de Clase. Los estudiantes que quieran desayunar en la escuela lo harán presentándose en la cafetería entre 7:30 a.m. a 7:50 a.m. para obtener su desayuno. Como en el pasado, todos los estudiantes recibirán desayuno y almuerzo gratis. Las puertas frontales se abren a las 7:30 y la campana de las 7:58 indica el tiempo para que los estudiantes estén en el plantel en la línea de su salón de clase.
